Chapter 12: 66
Azrael: *moves in front of Garnet, drops his cigarrette and steps on it, looks back at her* I know what you were doing.
Garnet: *blinks innocently* I had to piss, is that a problem?
Azrael: *smirks* You're a liar.
Garnet: What I was doing was none of your business. *goes to walk back to the group*
Azrael: *pulls her back again* Come with me.
Garnet: *looks back at him* Where?
Azrael: Just come on. *walks back into the quarters*
Garnet: *follows him back into his room* Don't try anything now.
Azrael: Would you trust me for one second? *removes the two boxes and sits on the bed* Sit next to me.
Garnet: *crosses arms* Can I get a "please"?
Azrael: Don't be a bitch.
Garnet: *stubbornly stands there a moment then sits next to him on the bed*
Azrael: *looks at her* I know you saw these. The moment I saw you eyeing this box up, I knew you would come searching for it.
Garnet: There's two now.
Azrael: Yes. *opens them both up* *picks one of the shards* Do you know what these are?
Garnet: Looks like junk.
Azrael: *looks insulted* They are certainly NOT junk. Baku and I are looking for the pieces that make up an ancient item. A very, very priceless item.
Garnet: *eyes light up* *enthusiastically* You mean something that if we put together could make us all rich forever, and we'd never have to pillage and plunder again?!
Azrael: *smirks* Something like that...
Garnet: So how many pieces are there?
Azrael: 66.
Garnet: 66? And we've got...
Azrael: Two.
Garnet: We've got a long way to go.
Azrael: Indeed. Now, listen, Garnet. We have to keep this very secret. We cannot let this mission go beyond the crew. We don't want these pieces falling into the wrong hands.
Garnet: *smiles* This is kind of exciting. I've been waiting for something like this.
Azrael: I figured I should tell you since we're partners. *looks at her*
Garnet: *smiles again* Well, I'm glad you told me about it. *thinks for a moment* Does this have anything to do with the pendant? Baku sent Aiden and I to Greenleaf to look for a pendant. He said it might be in pieces. Could those be a part of what this makes? *picks up one of the shards, the same feeling goes through her again*
Azrael: No, that's different, but none-the-less important. Baku told me you weren't successful.
Garnet: Yeah, we didn't find anything, but Baku thinks Callie knows where the pendant is. That's why he keeps those three with us. I don't know though, Jillian did something kind of strange today.
Azrael: *suddenly looks even more interested* Oh? What was that?
Garnet: Well, since we're on the top of pieces and pendants. While dropping off the treasure today, she was wearing a piece of a pendant on a chain, and it must have slipped off into the pile, because she looked really concerned that she almost lost it. She got it back though. *lays back on the bed* I don't know if that's relevant or not, but I thought it was kind of interesting. It made me think about Baku's mission for Aiden and I.
Azrael: *excitement fills his eyes a little, but remains silent and in thought*
Garnet: *watches him then stands up* Well... are we going to tell the other crew members right away about the pieces?
Azrael: Did you get a good look at the pendant she was wearing?
Garnet: What? Oh, no. I didn't.
Azrael: *silent again, returns to his thoughts*
Garnet: *watches him for a moment* Well, I'm going to go. It's getting late. I'll see you in the morning. *akwardly walks out of the room and shuts the door behind her* *sighs*
Jillian: *stretches and stands from the group, yawning* I'm going to turn in for the night. See everyone tomorrow! *gives a little wave and heads to her quarters* *hums a soft tune while walking down the hallway and into her room*
Garnet: *curled up on Jillian's bed, stares at her as she enters*
Jillian: *jumps a little at the sight of Garnet on her bed* Garnet? Is everything okay? *gently closes the door, then sits next to her on the bed*
Garnet: *rolls over to lay straight on her back, looks at Jillian then at her nails* I don't know... *puts arm over eyes* Azrael knew we saw the boxes.
Jillian: *frowns* How did he know? I never saw him..
Garnet: I don't know. *rests arms at her side* I don't know how he does it. He just knew. He took me back to his room to talk.
Jillian: *softly* What did he say? Did he tell you what the shards were?
Garnet: Yeah. He told me he and Baku were looking for 66 pieces of some sort of item. It's apparently a big deal.
Jillian: 66? What an unlucky number.. and they have two of the peices?
Garnet: Yeah... *silent for a moment, looks at Jillian* What's on your necklace?
Jillian: Hmm? *raises hand to neck, holding it there somewhat defensively* It's just a broken piece of junk.. I've had it for as long as I can remember.
Garnet: Junk? Why do you keep it then?
Jillian: My mother told me it would protect me if I wear it, and gets upset if I don't. I guess it's just a habit to have it now.. *pauses, looking at her* Why do you ask?
Garnet: *thinks to self - Maybe that truly is a part of the pendant Baku was talking about... I wonder why him and Azrael seem to want it so bad...* Oh, just curious. I saw you drop it earlier and you seemed pretty concerned about getting it back. I thought it might have some sort of significance. Do you know where she got it?
Jillian: *shakes head no* I've never really thought about it.. I could ask her whenever I get back I guess, whenever that is. I can remember wearing it very young though... 4 or 5 years old, so I'm sure she's had me wearing it my entire life.
Garnet: *sits up* Oh... really? That's pretty cool. It's kind of like... *glances down to her left briefly* ... Nevermind. *stands up*
Jillian: *looks at her confused for a moment, then shakes it off* Oh, I wanted to ask you too.. do you think it would be okay if I asked Baku to travel back to Greenleaf?
Garnet: You mean would it be okay to ask AZRAEL to travel back to Greenleaf? *laughs* Just kidding. I'm actually pretty sure it'll be okay. Ask him in the morning, and see what he says.
Jillian: Alright. *smiles* Have a good night! *shuts the door after she leaves and heads to sleep*
Garnet: *scurries back to Azrael's room, knocks quietly* *softly* Azrael? ... Azrael, are you awake? *opens his door slightly and peers in, only to find it empty* Huh... *shuts the door and looks around, walks up on deck to see him leaning on the railing, staring out into the ocean*
Azrael: *looks over at Garnet* Isn't it past your bedtime?
Garnet: Shut up, I have something to tell you. *leans over the railing next to him* Jillian says that she's been wearing that pendant since she was little, and that her mother has told her ever since that it would protect her. Does that ring a bell for you?
Azrael: *smiles at Garnet* My, my, you've become quite the little spy...
Garnet: Spy? I'm no spy! It was just girl talk, and you seemed interested when I mentioned Jillian's necklace, so I THOUGHT I'd be a good partner, and tell you about it. *walks around him, playfully smirking*
Azrael: *turns around to lean his back against the railing, watches Garnet* Well, I'm very glad you did.
Garnet: And she says she misses Greenleaf, so maybe you can convince Baku to go back there after the mast is fixed. You could talk to her mother and find out more information.
Azrael: Who says I could convince Baku?
Garnet: Please. I know it's you pulling some strings around here. *stops in front of him and smirks*
Azrael: *watches her for a moment* I'll see what I can do.
Garnet: Now will you tell me more about this pendant business?
Azrael: If you're lucky. *smirks and walks back to his room*
Garnet: Hey, wait... *voice trails off* *puts hands on hips and sighs*
